JANUARY 31: Our Best Face Forward: The Selfie in Visual Culture presented by Sonya de Lazzer
Join us for an engaging discussion on the selfie phenomenon, unraveling the layers that make it a complex and fascinating aspect of contemporary culture. This lecture offers a unique perspective on the selfie in visual culture; how the act of capturing one’s own image has changed over time, the intersections of technology, psychology, and society, and how this form of self-documentation contributes to the construction of both individual and collective identities. From the moment of its inclusion as a word in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, to astronauts on Earth-orbiting spacewalks, one thing is certain - the selfie captures us all.
